Tips for conserving water indoors:

1. Verify your home is leak free. Repair dripping taps by replacing washers.

2. Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. use water efficient flushes, plumbing fixtures having sensors, low flow faucet aerators which require minimum water.

3. While brushing your teeth and shaving, do not leave the tap running; Open it only when required.

4. For shaving, use a cup rather than using running water.

5. Close faucets while soaping and rinsing clothes.

6. Keep overflow valve in the overhead tanks so as to stop waste of water.

7. Use waste water in flush.

8. Don't use running water for releasing ice cubes from the tray.

9. Don't use extra detergent in washing clothes.

11. Don't use running water while washing clothes manually - hand washing.

12. Use dishwasher and clothes washing machines only in full loads.

13. Avoid using shower/big bath tubs in bathrooms.

14. While going outdoor, turn off the main valve for water.

15. Monitoring water meter is also a way of sving water.

16. Use only as much water as you require.

17. Close well the taps after use.

18. Install small shower-heads to reduce the flow of water along with low-flow faucet aerators.

19. Water the plants and ornamental potted plants with used water for washing vegetables and fruits.

20. Do not throw the water in the water bottle at the end of the day. Use it to water to the plants.

21. Don't use the toilet as an ash-tray or waste-basket.

22. Check regularly the hidden water leaks.

23. Put plastic bottles or float booster in your toilet tank.

24. Operate automatic washing machine when it is fully loaded.

25. Minimize use of kitchen sink garbage disposal units.

26. Do not use running water for rinsing the dishes while cleaning.

27. Do not let the faucet run while you clean vegetables.


Tips for Conserving Water-outdoors:

1. Minimize grass lawns in your yard b'coz less grass means less water demand.

2. Don't over-water your lawns. A good rain eliminates the need for watering more than a week.

3. Water the lawns in early morninghours as the temperature and wind speeds are the lowest. This reduces losses from evaporation.

4. Try to use waste of dish washing /cloth cleaning for gardening and cleaning the floor.

5. Use sprinkler or drip irrigation systems.

6. Don't allow waater to floe to gutter without any use.

7. Don't wash floors with a hose; Use a broom.

8. Use adequate fertilizer. The excess fertilizer increases the need of water.

9. Plant drought-resistant lawns, shrubs and plants.

10. Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants.

11. Water your lawns only when it is needed.

12. Deep-soak your lawn.

13. Add organic matter and use efficient watering systems for shrubs, flower beds and lawns.

14. Don't use the hose while washing your car/two wheelers.

15. Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks.
